The name Equinox comes from the Latin for “equal night,” symbolizing the balance between day and night.
The Fall Equinox, in particular, represents a moment of harmony and transition—a time to reflect and honor the harvests of the past months, whether that means the literal fruits of a garden or the personal growth and intentions cultivated throughout the year.
During this season, Monarch butterflies migrate to, and through, Phoenix for the winter. For this piece, I chose the Arizona Sister butterfly, which doesn’t migrate, but is a symbol of my friendship and sisterhood with Jackie Garay.
